I have experience with LoRa, and is basically the best phy you can have in terms of coverage, so with a decent antenna you should be ok in the woods.
I also think its cool, but the bandwidth limitations of LoRa should make everyone aware of the limited capabilities of such a system. Also LoRa allows you to make trade-offs between bandwidth and range, and given that all the bandwidth will be required, the potential range will be at the low-end of LoRa's potential.
At the end of the day LoRa was designed for the most part to facilitate large sensor networks that only periodically send small amounts of data, for that its perfect, any other application will quickly run into the trade-offs it made to serve its intended purpose
