The whole argument is just a verbal / tribal difference.
There's the social construct + expression of a woman, and the genetic definition. Nobody on the left believes your genes change when you transition. The question becomes "What makes a real man or real woman? Genes or gender expression?". Both sides are right in their own way, and which definition they use is mostly chosen by their team. It's a total non-issue that both teams have dug into and purposefully misunderstand the other team.
Gender and sexuality development is an incredibly complex process in the brain where all sorts of things can go "different" in all sorts of places. Trying to fit all that into man / woman / gay / straight, and then arguing about it with everyone having their own definitions, is crazy.
There are any number of real difficult questions we have to answer, like what do we do about sports and changing rooms? I support trans folks fully, but I also support women not being made to look at a penis in their changing room. But "can men become women" is an impossible question to answer without hours of preamble.
