back in my day it was called “the hill” or “capitol hill”. i remember moving up there in 2008 and feeling out of place not having full sleeve tattoos. we all smoked cigarettes and drank $4 pitchers of rainier. there were no box condo style modern apartments. broadway was mostly single story brick buildings and still had shitty fast food joints like jack in the box. it seemed like that was the beginning of the end. amazon was just opening up down the hill and it wasn’t long until the gentrification spread up to capitol hill. it’s nuts how much it changed - both physically and culturally.
