They wouldn't be able to use BTC at all in Iran right now. They have blocked all internet, even internally, so they will not be able to perform any transactions because they can't find or talk to any other computers on the Bitcoin network.

This is definitely not ideal, but all of digital banking has the exact same problem. Regular banks even moreso, because banking infrastructure is centralized, easier to cut off. With BTC it's far more likely they would be able to route around the "blockade".

This is really the only situation where gold shines. In every other situation, Bitcoin's features win by a country mile: global settlement, instant,.verifiable, harder supply cap, etc..
