monero is hitting ATH well into the beginning of a bear, which is unusual. It usually hits close to the end of a bull. This tells me that capital is moving into monero rather than just through it. Not that it won't go down, it will, but going forward I expect that in the next year or two long uptrend monero hits a new ATH and bitcoin doesnt.

Ledger isn't a offline signing device and hasn't been since they implemented online backup of keys a couple of years ago. Nobody serious about security buys ledger products anymore, and its never been FOSS so its always been contentious.
The only real games in town are trezor and its clones and seedsigner.
Just because ledger fucks up doesn't mean phones with WiFi and baseband spyware and regular software updates over the air is a good security practice.

Well when I say deep cultural relevance and tradition, the carving of a pumpkin is an ancient Celtic tradition just with pumpins instead of turnips. The day is the celebration of the autumn equinox. Christmas, whether you look at the ancient pagan roots of many of the traditions, or the Christian focus, is very symbolic and meaningful. Same with easter. The more recent and nation specific holidays, thanksgiving, 4th of July, all anneversarial and steeped in national pride and tradition to commemorate something important.
New years is kind of an arbitrary day. I feel it is in the same vein as valentines day or black Friday. It's just a silly thing for getting drunk IMO.
Don't get me wrong, I still get giddy watching my odometer roll over. It's cool and fun. It's just, I know there's no real meaning in it.

The great thing about a truly free protocol like nostr is that anyone can build anything, nobody needs permission, and nobody even needs to care. Well it's a bit of a stretch dude ngl lol but the idea is that if distortions caused by fiat could be removed simply by canceling out the denominator then those distortions wouldn't exist. When you remove the denominator you're throwing away information, like a lossy form of compression, you're losing context. And this shows OK the fact that two different commodities have different price changes, part due to their own market forces but partly because the distortions caused by fiat affect different parts of an economy to different degrees, as a result of this, you can't measure inflation across an economy simply by measuring the price change of any one commodity, hence CPI.

This is terrible security advice. You literally cannot not connect the phone to the internet; the offline signing wallet app must be updated directly over the internet.
Scanning QR codes is the most secure way to share signed transactions. It is an example of a scoped communication protocol, it can only communicate what you want communicated. You want an offline signed that cannot communicate beyond a narrow scope and only if the device is physically with you.
Jumbling up the order of your words, in any way, has no security benefit and only risk. If you want a portion of your security setup stored in your head, use a bip39 passphrase. General rule: anything you can think up to mess with your cryptography is just added complexity with a larger chance of failure and no security benefit.
A phone with a wallet on it is not a cold vault. A purpose built signing device with no wireless networking capability is.

If bitcoin exists only to cure monetary inflation and any guy can spin up an attempt at inflating it, it's not very good at it's only purpose, is it?
Of course, those premises are incorrect. Bitcoin exists to create a peer to peer electronic cash system. Curing monetary inflation is only a part of that. And these other things exist primarily to provide alternative peer to peer electronic cash systems based on peoples idea of what is an improvement. They're not fungible with bitcoin and therefore cannot inflate bitcoin, the only way they devalue bitcoin is by attracting users that like their feature set. The free market at work, for money, competition based on merit, it is natural selection. If bitcoin is the best and the only thing worth using, they'll have little impact I'm the short term and virtually none long term.

I think there's insight in exploring that, I think the reason things increasingly make less sense is because the things factoring into the decisions these people make are completely unknown to us. Think about some things you understand that most people refuse to see and even get emotional about you saying, like "you're not born with rights", a very powerful realization, and imagine your entire worldview being made up of shit like that. That's the environment these people are operating in. I wouldn't want it and I want it all to crumble, I just hope that doesn't mean the end of everything. I really try to figure it out though because I really want to know more about how the world works.

I think he genuinely wants to save the US as a political entity, buy I don't think he has the fortitude to do it, or even knows how to make it happen. However big of a fucking mess it looks to us, it's way worse behind the scenes, and they know many of those details that would probably blow our minds. I doubt anyone can do it honestly, and I doubt most men want to. They seem to go into it thinking they can do it and then at some point they start behaving like they're looting a sinking ship because they see that it can't be fixed. That's old fud. Nobody that I know of has been able to trace a monero transaction, I've never heard of a traced transaction used as evidence in court.
There are things that must be done carefully though, sure. You must use trusted remote nodes or your own node. You shouldn't reuse subaddresses. Besides that though the rest of it is automated, it's the default.

Monero subreddit is a ghost town. Its more reddit than monero. The only people that really use it are redditors primarily, and the monero devs do announcements and stuff there because it used to he the spot. I wish they'd figure it out, catch on but they are behind on that, too busy building.

So the shitcoiners, the number go up degens, they are the same as they've always been, except that they heard "just buy bitcoin" and didn't take the full lesson from it that they shouldve because they're midwits. They think it means that you'll always lose fiat in the long run gambling on shitcoins and bitcoin doesn't have that problem. I have never seen it articulated so clearly.
For me it's a journey of discovery, of the world and also self discovery. I think, when you can distil your world view down to quantities, you can very quickly find out where your understanding is lacking. Often times, what youre missing is self reflection; the and decision wasnt because of a misunderstanding of the world, but because of an internal shortcoming, maybe it's too quick to emotion, maybe some bias. This journey hardens your stoicism and makes you more willing to be humble and admit when you were wrong, because those are both prerequisites for success.

I do agree our society is getting fist fucked by whatever parasitic systems have been constructed by people. The cost of child care is particularly egregious. But personally, I don't know why you'd want to pay someone to raise your kids for you, the money isn't worth it. Once you've determined that, the path forward becomes more clear.

That was a suspiciously high number to me, 130k a year is comfortable for 4 people. The reasoning is flawed. First, I don't know anyone who spends 5% of their household budget on food, even people who cook at home every meal. But more importantly, the rough measure distorts the picture the less someone spends on food.
Think about it, if food, the only actual thing you need to stay alive, is only 5% of your income, what the fuck are you spending 95% of it on? Clothes? Seems to me, a significant chunk of it would have to be discretionary spending. If food is 100% of your income, you don't say that the poverty line is 1x your food budget, you say "I'm homeless." Similarly, if food is 0.1% of your income, you don't say you need 100x your food budget just to make ends meet, you say "I'm sp fucking rich that what I need to stay alive is so post scarcity I can spend a negligible amount of my income getting nutrition and sustenance". The measure itself skews badly and tells you nothing *unless you keep the measure the same, regardless of changes in trends.* And then, it only tells you something about relative changes. It doesnt actually tell you how someone is doing, no matter how you calculate it.

You're not driving up scarcity unless you're actually buying, the scarcity you've created is already priced in.
Why hodl? So that *your* purchasing power goes up. But where does that wealth come from that you get? It comes from others purchasing the bitcoin. So, by holding, you're front running others, youre saying "I think this thing is going to be valuable to others in the future and so if I'm right I will be rewarded for my foresight". This is not unethical.
Ultimately, it's those people on boarding that drive the purchasing power up, because your options are 1) buy shit with it, or 2) sell to them. If they offer a premium, youre going to do that if you aren't starving. So those people drive up the profitability for miners, given that the block reward is static. Profitability leads to more competition, increase in hash power to capitalize on that larger margin and the security of the network benefits.
What you actually do by hodling is *reducing liquidity.* this goes both ways. Your lack of liquidity during demand appreciation has a price impact that does benefit miners, but ultimately, since youre siphoning wealth from newcomers, as you should for taking the risk, any quantifiable benefit to the network is negated, and the benefit you see is largely borne by the newcomers, not hodlers. You get more than you give in terms of capital, and you wouldnt do it if that weren't true.
Theres no perpetual motion machine here, there is a law of conservation of capital if you will.
