When I tried i3 I also ended up abandoning it, but been using hyprland for a while now and really enjoy it. I heard niri is very similar but with a lot less config needed which for what I value, it means you might have started with the best option 🙂

Not sure most people are aware of the benefits (I'm not).
My understanding is that the commitment transaction is basically the transactions you are "passing around" with the other side of a lightning channel, your updates to the "bar tab". There is an issue that if these are too old, when you try to force close a channel, it fails because the fee to the miner is too low, so we need a mechanism for either side to bump the fee.
If this is correct, can you complete it with why is it important to support zero fee commitments and what exactly do they solve? (Or share a link 🙂)

It's been a few years since I read about them, but I think the idea was that you would provide attestations of the data each service required, for example, you wouldn't send your age, you would send a proof that you're over 18.
But I'm not sure if that design of the protocol made it.

I run two khatru relays for experiments, and two of the relay umbrel provides (wrapper around nostr-relay I think) for backups, cause they were the easiest thing for me to setup at the time. Last time I checked they were very outdated though, i should replace them.

I also question your assumptions: cross platform is necessarily less efficient than native, but doesn't have to be garbage. Users on cheap devices might have bad data plans, and dont want to download your app, but would use your website.

Depends on what you are building and for whom. Most B2B stuff is desktop only, and no one wants to do real work from a phone. Social media apps are something you use in the sofa or toilet, where you are unlikely to have a desktop. Etc
For what its worth, I do hope LLMs will lower the cost of porting apps to different platforms, and we'll see more native apps.

Maybe something from @nprofile…ezp2? I'm currently reading one and it focus a lot in the societal and philosophical ideas, without requiring a lot of prior knowledge.
I think the important in the beginning is more to make him curious than to give him an overview. If the economics part really clicks (just got Broken Money and looks great for this), then he'll probably have questions about how bitcoin works and fixes the issue. Then he might question why governments cant't stop this and need something about the game theory (maybe Gradually then suddenly by Parker Lewis). Then he might find proof of work inneficient (for that I would give him @nprofile…9hxq's Bitcoin is time). And so on.
Bitcoin is multidisciplinary so I don't think there's a sequential approach. Find what interests him the most, and feed the curiosity when the questions innevitably come up.

As you said, i think this project has different goals and tradeoffs. I would consider adding an option to filter out teleported users and their messages from a channel. The more local, the more abuse gets solved by proof of punch. Its not a solution but might help.

Mesh is bluetooth mesh, the same bluetooth that you can use to connect your headphones - the mesh means that the devices can connect to each other and pass along messages, forming a network. The goal is for you to be able to communicate privately, even without internet.
Bluetooth only reaches 10 meters, and unless youre in a busy place there is no one to pass along your message. When you favorited someone and they are unreachable, but you have internet, bitchat will instead send the message as a nostr message via relays.
Last piece of the puzzle is geohashes, a little code that represents a place in the world. You can join a channel for your location (or teleport to a random one) and everyone is communicating via nostr messages there.

At an old job, my team was tasked with building a spam filter. We had a dataset of emails tagged as spam by our users.
The assumption was that the spam was viagra selling and prince of Nigeria emails. We had none of those. Lots of “spam” were legit notification emails people didn’t want to see - but some really needed to see. Some were perfectly honest business offers - they were just not relevant for who was receiving them.
Spam is highly subjective. The day bitcoin has “no spam”, is the day it has no censorship resistance, cause obviously the spammer cared about that transaction, followed the consensus rules, and paid an higher fee to get their transaction in a block, instead of a transaction someone else cared more about.
If there are transactions that are valid but destructive to a part of the system (utxo set), maybe we should be redesigning the system to be less fragile and scale better, instead of trying to control its usage - cause if bitcoin works that won’t work.
If we want to make a certain kind of transaction invalid, because it doesn’t fit the goals of the bitcoin project, then we should be discussing a concrete change to the consensus rules. Discussing “spam” leads nowhere.

I was gonna be guilty of this by writing a NIP for book objects (and I’ve seen the same idea mentioned in PRs)
The motivation for that design was that, IMO, the reason for Goodreads to still be dominant even though it looks stuck in 1995 is the Amazon book catalog, that makes you find almost any book. I think only crowdsourcing can beat that, and it will take a long time. The options then were to make it nostr native or try to create yet another open book catalog. Went with the first option cause it felt more resilient and long lasting, even though it’s much less data efficient.

Yeah, but I guess they want their set to only have widely recognized symbols, and outside our bubble, bitcoin existing is as far as most people go…
Probably a better approach would be to publish a lib of compatible icons, for bitcoin and nostr purposes. Or just patch Lucide locally with my changes. Not sure if there are more icons to justify a lib

Just switched from Alacritty to Ghostty, basically cause I saw an interview with Ghostty's creator, heard how it's a passion project, and wanted to give it a try. I use TMUX with it though, so the experience is kind of the same. Integrates a bit better with the OS.
